Running through the night

Whilst most of us will be tucked up in bed this Saturday night, an intrepid gang of fundraisers will be running a marathon in aid of the Alan Shearer Foundation.

The Midnight Marathon is the latest challenge organised by Keith Harbottle, a Northumbria Police Officer, who has raised almost £14,000 for charity through a series of fundraising events.

Keith and his dauntless team of volunteers will be running 26.2 miles through the night from Newcastle to St Mary’s Lighthouse, Whitley Bay, and back, setting off at midnight.

“I’m hoping that everyone on the night will bring their best smiles and will dig deep!” says Keith. “Fundraising through these challenges is a massive thing for me, so thank you to everyone taking part for sticking with me for this.”

The team is running as Action4Smiles, which the former Royal Marine set up to raise funds for children with disabilities who use the Alan Shearer Centre – and to motivate others to get fit!
