St Cuthbert’s Care is set to benefit from the new plastic carrier bag charges which are being enforced in shops in England from this week.
Local family butchers, Dicksons, has offered to donate funds from the sale of its carrier bags in stores across the North East to the charity.
Dicksons’ Managing Director and St Cuthbert’s Care trustee, Michael Dickson, announced that his business is continuing to expand: “That’s good for local employment but it will also trigger the requirement under new legislation for us to charge 5p for plastic carrier bags. The proceeds will go to St Cuthbert’s Care.”
Nic Gilbert, St Cuthbert’s Care’s Director of Finance welcomed the initiative. “This is a great way for businesses to support local causes and we thank Michael for donating the proceeds to benefit our charity.”
