Light a candle of remembrance

An open invitation is extended to anyone who wishes to attend a special gathering of remembrance for departed residents at our Holy Cross Nursing Home in Sunderland.

The home’s first ‘Light a Candle’ afternoon will take place on Thursday, 26 November at 2.30pm with next of kin, friends and all those who wish to share in a period of reflection gathering for prayers, led by Fr Mariadass, in the home’s beautiful St Jeanne Jugan chapel.

Tea and light refreshments will follow, giving those who attend an opportunity to come together to share their experiences and memories.

“As well as sharing in prayers, our visitors can leave a message in our memory book and light a candle for their loved ones,” said Holy Cross Manager, Cynthia Agbo. “I hope our guests will further benefit from the comfort of being together.”

The commemorative event will be replicated in our St Catherine’s Nursing Home in Newcastle in the New Year and will be held at both homes twice each year. Regular support groups are also available at our homes for bereaved relatives who wish to stay in touch.
