A gentleman with Alzheimer’s disease and his close cousin are both finding life more enjoyable since they discovered the benefits of our St Joseph’s Day Centre in Gateshead.
St Joseph’s supports people with dementia and helps them to be as independent as possible by taking part in activities and socialising with others who have similar conditions.
Jack Douglas and his cousin, Jean, have been close since childhood and became even closer after the death of Jack’s wife. So, when she found out that Jack was relying on daily trips to the pub to enjoy a decent meal and find some company, she became anxious about finding a more enriching experience for her cousin.
Jack’s diagnosis with Alzheimer’s led to a referral to St Joseph’s and both she and Jack have never looked back.
“It’s changed our lives,” said Jean. “Jack has settled in so well and I feel relieved that he is able to enjoy such interesting activities and conversation at the centre. I used to worry about him being on his own, but I can relax knowing he’s safe and settled at St Joseph’s.”
