Residents and staff at or nursing homes in Sunderland and Newcastle marked Dignity Action Day on February 1st by taking part in a range of activities and interests.
At Holy Cross, a ‘Songs of Praise’ gathering included hymns chosen by residents themselves and featured readings and poems about dignity and respect – including one read by resident, Maureen Walton and another by regular visitor, Margaret Trotter.
Tea and home-made cake, baked by Activity Co-ordinator, Clare Quinn, rounded off the occasion.
Over at St Catherine’s, residents enjoyed exploring their inner calm and creativity with a session of Tai Chi followed by time enjoying a variety of arts and crafts.
The aim of Dignity Action Day is to highlight the importance of treating everyone using care services as individuals with a right to make choices and enjoy a sense of purpose in their lives.
