This is the news from your local BBC … presented by some of our Parkhead Day Centre regulars.
People attending our centre in Ashington for adults with learning disabilities have tried their hand at many things, but a behind-the-scenes tour of BBC Newcastle recently gave them a host of brand new experiences.
The lucky visitors got the chance to sample lots of broadcasting techniques, including reading from an autocue, presenting the weather and even recording a radio jingle!
During the visit, the group also travelled through a BBC timeline to learn about its history, had fun with the station’s green screens – which placed them in different locations around the world – and met popular presenter, Colin Briggs, for a question and answer session.
“It was all very exciting,” said Parkhead Support Worker, Hannah Chappell, who attended with the group. “We really felt the part with our headphones and microphones! It was hard work, too, but so much fun once we got the hang of it all. We had such a great time and would love to go back!”
