Football league games may be drawing to a close but for some regular visitors to our Parkhead Day Centre for adults with learning disabilities in Ashington, the season is just about to begin!
Staff at Parkhead are busy recruiting new team members for the Centre’s very own football team after the last players hung up their boots around 10 years ago.
Nine team members are already signed up – including two ladies and five original members – and they are taking their training seriously as they head towards their first competition in June.
“When we found out there used to be a team that played against similar teams from other day centres, we thought it was time to revive the tradition,” said manager, Claire Graham. “There’s already been a tremendous amount of interest, not just in joining the team, but being a travelling supporter, too. I think our days out will be pretty memorable and hopefully we’ll bring back the odd trophy, too!”
