Green fingered residents at our St Catherine’s Nursing Home in Newcastle have been taking advantage of the good weather to plan and plant their garden courtyard.
The small group are members of a new gardening club at the home and spent time carefully considering plant varieties, colour schemes and positioning before any planting took place.
But there was no beating around the bush once the selected seedlings arrived. With the sun shining in the sheltered courtyard garden, it was trowels and watering cans at the ready! Marigolds, Bacopa, Lobelia and Geraniums were among the blooms given pride of place.
“We’ve added a splash of colour to our garden with some cheerful bedding plants – and had great fun in the process,” said Community Services Manager, Joanne Bulford. “The names of the plants have tested everyone’s memory and they’ve proven to be a real talking point, too.”
Because the courtyard can be viewed from the comfort of the home’s large, glazed lounge, residents unable to get outside are still able to enjoy watching them flourish.
“I’m sure they’ll be admired and discussed many times throughout the summer months,” added Joanne.
