They’re all Yankee Doodle Dandies at Parkhead

It was stars and stripes and all things American at our Parkhead Resource Centre in Ashington today, as service users marked American Independence Day.

The morning was spent decorating the centre in red, white and blue and learning a little about the story behind the 4th of July celebration. Then everyone enjoyed an American themed lunch, with hot dogs and fries, followed by waffles with syrup.

“A waffly good lunch!”, said Parkhead member, Ellen.

This year sees the 20th anniversary of the Parkhead centre, which offers a wide range of social and educational activities for adults with learning disabilities. Preparations are well under way for a special celebration on Friday, 29 July, with lots of stalls and games – and a guest appearance by Nelly the donkey, who will be very happy to pose for selfies!

Look out for more information closer to the day.
