A group attending our Parkhead Resource Centre for adults with learning disabilities are much wiser about caterpillars and butterflies thanks to their latest project.
It all started when some of our Parkhead regulars expressed their fascination with caterpillars turning into butterflies. A specialist kit was purchased and the wait for the tiny caterpillars to transform began.
The young caterpillars had no shortage of pampering and attention as they grew and, after several weeks of watching and waiting, our patient service users and staff were rewarded with the magic of seeing the butterflies emerge.
“It was so exciting!” said Parkhead Manager, Claire Graham. “Everyone enjoyed feeding them fruit and watching them eat and when the time came to set them free we felt we’d really made a small contribution to the natural world.”
Service users at Parkhead have worked hard during the summer to transform their garden, so there are plenty of butterfly-friendly plants to encourage future generations, too!
