There wasn’t a Muggle to be found at our Parkhead Resource Centre in Ashington when all things Harry Potter gripped the imagination of our regular service users.
Everyone at our specialist resource centre for adults with learning disabilities spent the entire day thinking up creative ways to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the first ever Harry Potter movie hitting the big screen.
Once the typically friendly group at Parkhead had transformed themselves into wizards for the day they separated into the four Hogwart’s school houses to hone their competitive skills.
The fun started with seeing who could make the best family crest for their respective houses of Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin; then wands were drawn to decide who most deserved to be the winner of the House Cup with a quiz that tested even the most avid Harry Potter fan.
When lunch was served, the Harry Potter theme continued and everyone enjoyed a delicious meal of Hogwarts Hotpot followed by Sunken Broomstick Butterbeer desert – a secret recipe closely guarded by its creator and Parkhead regular, Christina.
A wand-making workshop rounded off the day and everyone hit the headlines as archvillain, Sirius Black in their very own version of the film’s famous moving newspaper, ‘The Daily Prophet’.
“The day was a great success,” said Senior Carer at Parkhead, Hannah Chappell, “especially our own photo booth that we made to create pages of the magical moving newspaper ‘The Daily Prophet’. Everyone agreed our recreations were pretty accurate!”
