Let them eat cake!

The well-known phrase ‘ready, steady, cook!’ marked the start of our very own ‘bake off’ when young people from our Auton Newcastle residential children’s homes took on the legendary baking challenge.

The Great Auton Bake Off was as professional as the show made famous by the BBC, with cakes whisked up to perfection ready to be judged for flavour, texture and presentation.

The selection of baked goodies were served up to cake ‘experts’ – Director of Care, Sheila Errington and Safeguarding Lead, Sarah Croft – who happily assumed the fictitious names of Sheila Berry and Sarah Hollywood for the contest.

“Our expertise in baking leans heavily towards the taste factor,” said Sheila, “and we were incredibly impressed by the quality of the cakes.”

“Everything was perfect,” added Sarah. “It showed off the team’s baking talents and left us in no doubt about the winner – all of them!”

The tempting teatime treats included lemon drizzle cake, chocolate brownies, Victoria sponge and Devil food cake and certificates for master baker, star baker and expert baker were duly awarded to the participants.
