Poppy production powers ahead

It’s been full speed ahead at the Alan Shearer Centre’s Live and Learn craft sessions with preparations for Remembrance Sunday.

Recreation Assistant, Heather McLaren, had all the necessary materials ready to make poppy wreaths for the weekend’s commemorations and members set to work with a will.

“We had a really efficient production line going,” said Heather “with everyone cutting and pasting and in no time at all there were dozens of poppies ready to work with. Naturally, we made wreaths with most of them, but I’d also found some instructions online on how to make poppy windmills – something we’d never come across before.”

The Centre isn’t open on Sundays, but the wreaths are on display in reception now and the windmills will be whirling in the garden, outside the front door, over the weekend.
