The aromatic experiences available in our Activity Centre sensory garden extended to the kitchen when some of our adults with learning disabilities got together to try out a new recipe.
Fragrant parsley, thyme, marjoram and chives were gathered from the sensory garden and used to transform the humble cheese scone into something extra special by regular cookery group members at our Live & Learn skills session.
Word soon spread about how good the scones turned out so the recipe was then put to the test by service users from our home in Bailiffgate, Alnwick who recently turned out an equally delicious batch of soda bread, too.
“We knew it wouldn’t be long before winter took its toll on the herbs in our sensory garden, so what better way to use that last bit of summer fragrance than in our cooking,” said Recreation Assistant, Heather McLaren, who helped to support everyone with their cooking. “We had great fun choosing and picking the herbs and then cooking the scones, which were absolutely gorgeous!”
