When a group of men and women with learning disabilities living in our care moved into their new, purpose-built apartments, they had no idea that preparations were underway at a local school to make sure they received a very unique welcome to their new community.
A surprise housewarming gift remained a closely guarded secret until it was unveiled at a special gathering of invited guests at the apartments and revealed to be an original artwork created by Year 9 students at Kenton School.
The stunning, metre square abstract picture, titled Construction Assemblage No.1, was presented to our residents by a group of students involved in its design and will be given pride of place at the entrance to the apartment block.
Our Director of Care Services, Sheila Errington said, “Our residents are thrilled to have received such a warm welcome and such an amazing and thoughtful gift. We would like to thank everyone involved in the project and I’m sure it will gain many more admirers in its prominent position in the foyer at Sherringham House.”
Sherringham House in Kenton has been developed by Karbon Homes and Newcastle City Council and constructed by Gus Robinson Developments. The building offers 15, self-contained apartments together with a concierge service and enables our residents to live independently with our specialist support.
