Grass skirts, lei and some pretty challenging games were the order of the day for everyone attending a special event at our Parkhead Resource Centre for adults with learning disabilities.
Although the centre is based in Ashington, it was like stepping into Waikiki as soon as the threshold was crossed with palm trees decorating the walls, a buffet of tropical fruit and nibbles and even a miniature tiki bar with exotic (but alcohol-free) cocktails on offer.
Our staff and service users limbered up with a limbo dance or two and dealt a few blows to the piñata to encourage it to give up its sweet treats, then it was dancing the afternoon away with some carefree disco music.
“Our Hawaiian party must have been one of the best events we’ve ever held,” said Senior Support Worker, Hannah Chapple. “We were so excited when we were making all of the decorations – we even made the tiki bar ourselves – but the whole event was even better than we could have imagined.”
