A day out at Beamish open air museum in County Durham, proved a great hit with members of Parkhead, our resource centre for adults with learning disabilities in Ashington – especially when they discovered there was a sweet shop on the site.
After watching the traditional “bullets” being made, everyone treated themselves to a selection of old fashioned sweets. Just the thing to share on the tram ride to the museum’s old school. Here one of the group, Stephen, pointed out some of the flags on display, which he had recently been learning about at Parkhead.
With so much to see and so much dashing about, they were all happy to round off the day sitting in the park enjoying a ‘miner’s picnic’.
Centre Manager, Claire Graham, said, “We organise outings for our members throughout the year, but this must have been one of the best. Fortunately, we got lovely weather on the day and we could wander all over the museum’s huge site.”
