Young people give pet rabbits daily VIP treatment

Meet Shadow and Midnight – two Lionhead rabbits who are thoroughly enjoying all the pampering and attention they are receiving at our children’s residential home in Darlington.

It was during a house meeting, that our young people first put forward the suggestion of getting a pet for their home and, after a great deal of considered discussion, it was agreed that rabbits would be an ideal choice.

Before the Very Important Pets were bought, however, our young people researched all things rabbit and threw themselves into all the careful preparations needed for their arrival – from learning about their diet and stocking up on food and bedding to putting together a luxurious hutch and garden run.

Once everything was in place and after a visit to the local vet for a routine health check, Shadow and Midnight were finally ready to be welcomed to the household.

“Each one of our young people has a special task to carry out in caring for the rabbits and are thoroughly enjoying caring for their new pets,” said home manager, Katie Doyle. “They fully understand that owning pets is a very responsible thing to do and are showing great dedication and commitment to making sure our rabbits want for nothing.”
