Parkhead skills create stylish dining for the birds

Although there’s already an autumn chill in the air, birds in the Ashington area are in for a real treat in the coming months, thanks to the skills and kindness of regulars at our Parkhead Resource Centre for adults with learning disabilities.

Supported by our staff, the young men and women attending the Centre have been busily designing and constructing some of the poshest bird feeders around.

But it’s not all about looks. Each beautiful feeder holds a selection of tasty treats for the hungry birds that visit the Centre’s gardens.

“A lot of love and attention to detail has gone into our new bird feeders, which have been designed and built from scratch,” said Parkhead Manager, Claire Graham. “We’re really looking forward to seeing the birds visit to enjoy a bit of TLC as the weather gets colder and there’s certainly no shortage of volunteers willing to keep them topped up with food.”

As well as making sure the local wildlife is exquisitely cared for during the winter months, our service users have been busy keeping the Centre’s gardens bright and colourful, too.

“We have some very keen gardeners who love to help us keep everything looking great,” added Claire, “and we all make the most of being outside whenever the sun shines, whatever time of year it is.”
