New tree-lined entrance provides a sensory treat

An avenue of ornamental hawthorn saplings has been created along the lawned pedestrian approach to St Cuthbert’s House – home to residents living in St Catherine’s Nursing Home and headquarters of St Cuthbert’s Care and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle.

The trees will provide a dramatic and striking pathway all year round, with fragrant blossom appearing throughout the spring; dense, green leaves turning to shades of orange, red and yellow in the autumn and clusters of red berries appearing in the winter months.

As the trees grow and mature, they will create a dramatic, sensory arbour, adding interest to the landscape and improving biodiversity by attracting bees and insects and providing shelter and a plentiful feast for a variety of birds.
