Sweet day for celebrating chocolate

As chocolate week draws to a close, adults with learning disabilities attending our Parkhead Resource Centre in Ashington made sure they made the most of the occasion.

Starting off with lots of grating, melting and mixing of ingredients, they soon had a delicious truffle and, after skilfully shaping and dusting with cocoa powder the sweets looked, well, good enough to eat!

After a hard morning’s work as chocolatiers, lunchtime provided a well-deserved rest … and more chocolate, with chocolate chip cookies being served for dessert.

Then it was a blindfolded chocolate taste test, a challenging chocolate quiz and time to unwind as they watched their own screening of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Senior Support Worker at Parkhead, Hannah Chapple, said, “Everyone’s beautiful, hand-made chocolate truffles didn’t just look great but tasted so delicious that everyone was given the recipe to take home. Who knows, their friends and family may well be enjoying some tasty hand-made treats in their Christmas stockings.”
