Staff at our residential home in Alnwick for adults with learning disabilities, never shy away from a challenge when it comes to making sure residents’ hopes and dreams comes true.
So, when resident, Hughie, let it be known that he’d love nothing better than to see someone play a violin in concert, Manager, Joanne Dixon got searching.
Pretty soon, the perfect event was found and tickets were booked for a fabulous night out at a ‘Last Night of the Proms’ performance in Newcastle’s City Hall.
Hughie loves music and was delighted to be going to the concert, but he was over-the-moon when the show turned out to feature not one, but two young violinists.
“The icing on the cake was that Hughie could sing along to many of the songs featured in the show,” said activity co-ordinator, Gwen. “I think he particularly enjoyed joining in with the Blaydon Races because he knew every word of every verse.”
Hughie’s Last Night of the Proms experience follows last year’s trip to see an opera. “I don’t think opera is for me, but the Proms show was great,” said Hughie.
