When residents at our home for adults with learning disabilities in Bailiffgate, Alnwick, received an invitation to their first Christmas party, it was the perfect time to rustle up something tasty to take along.
Everyone was so excited to receive the invitation from Alnwick Working Men’s Club and they all agreed that taking along some of their famed home baking would be a lovely thank you surprise.
Supported by the home’s activity co-ordinator, Gwen, many of the residents were involved in weighing the ingredients, rolling the pastry, lining the cake tins and spooning in the delicious filling to make some of the tastiest mince pies around.
“Mince pies are one of our residents’ favourite Christmas treats,” said Gwen, “and they were really popular at the party, too. It’s a shame Christmas only comes round once a year, but I have a feeling we’ll be baking and eating a lot more mince pies before New Year!”
