Karaoke carpooling

Our brilliant volunteer, Barbara was over the moon to be offered a lift home at the end of her shift in Browne’s – our café at the Alan Shearer Activity Centre – by none other than Centre manager, Jackie.

With business to attend to at our independent supported living apartments in Kenton where Barbara lives, Jackie jumped at the chance to share some time – and some tunes – with one of her star volunteers.

“We had a brilliant boogie in the car to some of Barbara’s favourite music before we set off,” said Jackie. “At the end of a busy day, Barbara’s sense of fun gave me the energy boost I needed to get on with what I needed to do.”

Employees at our independent supported living service have worked closely with Barbara to make sure she is able to travel independently and she usually loves travelling to her volunteer job by bus. But having some fun with Jackie was too good an opportunity to miss.

“Getting a lift with Jackie was great!” said Barbara.
