Professional Care Workers’ Week gives us the ideal opportunity to show how our social care charity values our care workers and supports them to realise their potential.
Natalie joined our St Catherine’s nursing home as a Carer in 2020 with a strong ambition to forge a career in social care. Within a year, Natalie had been promoted to Lead Carer and completed a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care while continuing to work in her role.
“The home managers really supported me with my work for my Level 3,” said Natalie. “I was able to arrange shifts to best work around my studies when I needed to and they were always happy to help with advice.”
This year, Natalie’s hard work and dedication saw her promoted to Senior Carer with her role expanding to include the management of care plans, medication and liaising with medical professionals and specialists to support the health and wellbeing of residents.
“Sometimes people in general seem not to fully understand what is involved in working in social care,” added Natalie. “I’d love to see the profession receive the credit it deserves.
“Working for St Cuthbert’s Care, however, I’m always treated with respect and seen as a professional,” said Natalie. “I continue to be ambitious and know I’ll be supported by the charity in whatever path I choose to take next. For now, I feel settled, we are well paid and I’m very happy to work somewhere that rewards and values everyone who works in social care.”
