On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we have chosen to look at the incredible abilities of one of the people we support through our Independent Supported Living (ISL) service.
Carl has never let his learning disabilities get in the way of his hobbies and ambitions and for the last 20 years, he has shown total dedication and commitment to mastering a number of martial arts disciplines.
As well as attending a variety of classes up to six times a week, Carl still sets aside time to share his skills in the local community. As a black belt in Jui Jitsu, Carl regularly coaches at junior and senior level, passing on his knowledge and love of the Japanese sport.
“Martial arts are a huge part of Carl’s life,” said deputy manager, Angela. “He takes the physical and mental demands of the sports comfortably in his stride and loves nothing more than challenging himself in competition. He’s an absolute inspiration.”
