Supporting George’s familiar routine

Throughout Dignity Action month, we’ve been taking a look at some of the many ways our staff teams demonstrate dignity in action through their day-to-day care.

Like Julie, Administrator in our St Catherine’s nursing home in Newcastle, who is helping 96-year-old resident, George to keep to a routine he’s followed for many years.

“George has always started his day with a cuppa and his morning newspaper, but it takes him a little longer to find his feet first thing now,” said Julie. “So, we had a chat together and we agreed that I would bring his newspaper and first cup of tea to his room so he has time to gather his thoughts and feel confident about getting moving. After that, George very much enjoys his independence and is an incredibly active part of our nursing home community.”

Sometimes it’s the little things that make such a big difference and, although the month of awareness is drawing to a close, we’ll be continuing to keep dignity at the very heart of our work.
