We are proud to share that our Alan Shearer Activity Centre has received national recognition for its autism-friendly approach.
The Centre, which welcomes more than 5,000 members with a range of disabilities, has been awarded the National Autistic Society’s Autism Friendly Award. This award celebrates organisations that go the extra mile to support autistic people and their families.
To achieve this recognition, the Centre demonstrated its inclusive approach by providing specialist staff training, offering quiet spaces and ensuring clear, accessible information is always available.
Alan Shearer OBE said: “I’m incredibly proud of what the Centre has achieved. From day one the aim has been to create a place where everyone feels welcome and supported, and receiving this recognition shows the difference it’s making for autistic people and their families.”
Nic Gilbert, Chief Executive of St Cuthbert’s Care, added: “We’re delighted that the Alan Shearer Activity Centre has been recognised with the Autism Friendly Award. It reflects the dedication of our team, who work every day to make sure our members and their families enjoy a friendly, inclusive environment.”
This award highlights the Centre’s commitment to breaking down barriers and ensuring autistic people and their families always feel valued, supported and safe.
