Celebrating Jordan on International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Today we celebrate the achievements of one of the amazing people we support through our Independent Supported Living Service.

Jordan has autism and ADHD, which can lead to feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem, but he would often speak to our care team about how much he wished to be a volunteer.

Working closely with Jordan, our team identified an ideal opportunity which fit in perfectly with his hobbies and interests and with their continued support, Jordan was soon stepping into the role of Volunteer Welcomer at Newcastle Cathedral.

Now, Jordan is confidently greeting visitors, helping to promote their events and answering questions about the Cathedral’s history and heritage.

Jordan is delighted to be playing an active role in the community and since starting in the role, our team have noticed how much more confident and independent he has become, managing his own volunteer shifts, chatting more freely and enjoying making new friends.

“It’s the best decision I ever made,” said Jordan. “I’m so happy to be helping other people and I enjoy it so much. I can’t thank the staff team enough for helping me to become a volunteer.”
