The Chapel at our St Catherine’s nursing home in Newcastle was filled with residents who gathered for the Adoration of Our Lady of Fatima.
Guided by our friend of St Catherine’s, Patrick Cunningham, the Adoration invited residents to come together in prayer, praying five decades of the Rosary and offering intentions for peace as part of the Five First Saturdays Devotion. Residents were also presented with scapulars and prayer intention cards, which will be placed in the Chapel of the Apparition in Fatima, Portugal, uniting their prayers with those of countless faithful around the world.
The devotion originally arose from apparitions of the Virgin Mary witnessed by three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal in 1917 asking for prayers, penance and peace and devotion to her Immaculate Heart.
