Moving into a nursing home can feel like a daunting step and it would be understandable to think it might be lonely and impersonal, too. However, Vera and Kathleen are just two of our nursing home residents who have found it actually means making new friends and continuing to enjoy life.
Moving into our Holy Cross nursing home in Sunderland just months apart, Vera and Kathleen have become inseparable friends, seeking out each other’s company every day.
“We just hit it off straight away,” said Vera. “I’d say I’m surrounded by friends at Holy Cross, but having Kathleen as a best friend is wonderful. I feel comfortable and happy knowing I have Kathleen to confide in and share a laugh with.”
And the two women have discovered a shared love of singing, too.
“We love joining in with the songs when an entertainer visits,” said Vera, “but we don’t take much encouragement to have a singsong at any time!”
At Holy Cross – and at our sister nursing home in Newcastle, St Catherine’s – we like to think everyone is just a friend waiting to be discovered.
