Each February, the spotlight falls on dignity as we mark Dignity Action Day and Dignity Action Month, but for each one of our services, dignity is embedded in our care every single day.
For Judith, who lives in our St Catherine’s nursing home in Newcastle, dignity is woven into the fabric of her care from the moment she wakes up to the moment she falls asleep at night.
“I want for nothing,” says Judith. “I’ve got a great family who are always made so welcome when they visit and the staff here are brilliant, especially when the family can’t be here. I have choices in every aspect of my life and still feel very independent.
“I celebrated my 70th birthday here last year and the staff helped to make it really special. The whole family gathered in the garden room and the staff made a delicious buffet and even a special cake for the party.
““The staff feel like extended family,” continued Judith. “When I wanted to see the New Year in and most of the other residents were in bed, the staff made it happen. They joined me as I toasted the arrival of 2026 and we had a great time. Nothing is too much trouble for them, whether it’s a special occasion or something more everyday, like getting me along to the lounge to play bingo or Scrabble. It’s all really important and done with a smile.”
There’s no better feeling than making the people we support happy.
