Time to Talk Day

Time to Talk Day raises awareness of the benefits of conversation – and making time to chat to the people we support at every opportunity is something we’re proud to include as standard in our day-to-day care.

As well as knowing everyone we support individually by name along with their individual personal preferences, we know many of their families incredibly well, too – and that all comes from taking time to talk as often as possible.

“Our staff teams regularly take time to chat to the people we support and never pass up an opportunity for a friendly chat while providing their care,” said Director of Care, Amanda. “We’re really lucky to have some amazing volunteers in our services who love chatting and spending time with the people we support, too. Group chats are also a daily feature in our lounges and shared spaces, encouraged through activities and social events.

“Conversation is a wonderful way to support relaxation, share thoughts and feelings and encourage reminiscence and it doesn’t have to be done with words, “added Amanda. “Staff teams in our disability services, for example, are trained in PECS and Makaton and communication in our children’s services can be supported with mood cards to encourage our young people to open up about their feelings.”

Wherever you look, our compassionate care teams really understand that it’s good to talk.
