This week, we are proud to mark Neurodiversity Celebration Week.
Neurodiversity recognises that people experience and interact with the world in different ways. There is no single ‘right’ way to think, learn or communicate—and these differences should be understood, respected and celebrated.
Across our services, we see this every day.
At the Alan Shearer Activity Centre, young people are supported to explore their interests in ways that suit them, whether that’s being active outdoors, engaging in creative activities, or enjoying calm, sensory spaces. Within our Alan Shearer Specialist Residential home, we work alongside individuals to provide personalised support that reflects their unique strengths, preferences and goals.
Our staff teams also take part in regular training programmes to build their understanding of neurodiversity. Recent examples include AJ’s Brain, which focuses on lived experience and visits from an autism bus, giving staff the opportunity to experience some of the sensory processing challenges faced by people we support.
As a charity, we are committed to creating inclusive environments where everyone feels valued, understood and able to thrive – just as they are.
