Ruby Robin Award for Hub@Parkhead members

Many of our services are set in stunning surroundings and help the people we support to benefit from fresh air, exercise and immersing themselves in nature.

At the Hub@Parkhead in Ashington, our members take every opportunity to give something back to nature, so there was no hesitation when they were invited to take part in the Songbird Survival Trust’s Ruby Robin Award.

By stringing peanuts, hanging bird feeders and watching the birds visit, they were able to complete the Ruby Robin challenge, attracting feathered visitors and learning how to identify each variety, their favourite food and the habitat that helps them to thrive.

And their hard work also means they’ve each earned a Ruby Robin certificate.

“Learning how many beautiful birds are in decline meant we made an extra effort to help,” said manager, Claire. “We were outside come rain or shine – led by our chief bird feeder, Stephen – making sure the feeders were kept topped up. They’re all so proud of their certificates.”

And their amazing contribution to nature doesn’t stop there. Many of our members have taken their new-found knowledge home to help birds in their own gardens, too.
