Helping Vicki to flourish

Vicki enjoying her rose garden

As part of this year’s Learning Disability Week and its theme ‘Do You See Me?’, we’re sharing stories from across our disability services that celebrate the people we are proud to support.

Vicki recently moved into our Independent Supported Living Service, where she receives the gentle support and encouragement of our staff to do the things she loves.

Vicki is naturally outgoing and friendly, always happy to chat about her life and experiences and it was during one of these conversations that she shared fond memories of the rose garden at her family home.

These happy memories sparked the seed of an idea and staff were soon working alongside Vicki to create a rose garden of her own. It’s no co-incidence that her favourite rose is called ‘Proper Job’ – a name that perfectly reflects her approach to everything she does.

Life extends well beyond her rose garden, though. Vicki enjoys many social activities at Journey Enterprises, a charity run for and by people with learning disabilities. However, despite her busy week, she still finds time to volunteer at the Alan Shearer Activity Centre, where her bright smile and boundless enthusiasm are really appreciated by our members and visitors.

Vicki really enjoys all the company and conversation, but at the end of the day, she likes nothing better than spending time in her rose garden, where she’s created a perfect space to unwind.

By supporting Vicki to enjoy the full and active life that matters to her and creating a special place for her to relax and recharge, we’re helping her to find the best balance to suit her lifestyle.
