Peter’s coffee morning with purpose

Peter, raising money for McMillan

As part of this year’s Learning Disability Week and its theme ‘Do You See Me?’, we’re sharing stories from across our disability services that celebrate the people we are proud to support.

Tenants at our Independent Supported Living service in Kenton have been marking the week in their own way, coming together for a special ‘social butterfly’ coffee morning.

Spending time together over a cuppa is something they all enjoy and holding coffee mornings are a favourite part of life at their home. For Peter, it’s also an opportunity to combine his love of socialising with raising money for a good cause.

Each year, Peter hosts a coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Inspired by the cause, he attended a cancer awareness course to learn more about prevention and early signs, and his enthusiasm led fellow tenant Gail to join him. Together, they have become strong advocates for cancer awareness, sharing what they’ve learned and encouraging others to be aware, too.
