Recycling champions aim for zero waste

At the Hub@Parkhead day centre is Ashington, our members have been busy recycling and reducing their waste for years and are proud to support Zero Waste Week by sharing some of the steps they take every day.

The number of items they recycle has steadily grown, with food waste being a recent addition to their recycling efforts – even the bags used to collect food waste are biodegradable.

Before the end of the day, everyone is keen to help gather up the recyclables, separating them out and making sure they are put in the correct bins for collection.

“Our members really enjoyed learning to recognise items that can be recycled and where they need to go,” said manager, Claire. “They’ve become great recycling champions and love to make sure materials are sorted and disposed of properly. They are so proud to play their part in helping us to reduce waste and to help us work towards our goal of zero waste.”
