Catching up at our Learning Disability Week coffee morning

A special coffee morning to mark Learning Disability Week has been hosted at our Alan Shearer Centre.

People from our Independent Supported Living service thoroughly enjoyed the social occasion, joining fellow tenant, Gail, at the Centre where she has worked for the last four years.

Gail swapped her role on reception for the morning so she could wait on her friends and housemates in the Centre’s café, helping to serve refreshments and delicious cakes and scones.

“I love working here,” said Gail. “It’s the best job ever.”

As well as socialising together, our tenants were treated to a discussion with Jay from Healthwatch who helped everyone to remember the importance of being heard and expressing their views when attending health appointments. They were also able to talk to representatives from Skills for People about work and education for people with learning disabilities.

Peter, who lives in our Sherringham House Independent Living service said, “I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s been a great morning.”
