Celebrating the Scottish Bard

Tartan togs, a wee dram or two and the traditional Address to a Haggis were just some of the ways residents living in our nursing homes in Newcastle and Sunderland found to celebrate Burns Night.

Our Holy Cross residents in Sunderland shared toe tapping memories with a livestream of one of their favourite entertainers, Michaela, and a repertoire of songs such as Flower of Scotland and Roamin’ in the Gloamin.

Of course, no celebration is complete without a meal of tatties, neeps and haggis.

“I’d say it’s a bit of an acquired taste,” said Joyce as she tucked into her meal. “I wouldn’t want to eat it all the time, but it’s fun to mark the day with all the proper traditions.”

And, at our sister home in St Catherine’s, resident, Selma paid her tribute to the great Scottish Bard with a perfectly painted Scottish flag.

Sláinte Mhath – good health, to you all.
