Everyone attending our Parkhead Resource Centre in Ashington has been carrying out a little competitive cultivating at home as the race hots up to grow the tallest sunflower.
While our centre sessions continued via Zoom during the pandemic, tiny sunflower seeds were posted out to encourage everyone to plant the seeds as a symbol of hope – with great success.
Not only have small groups been able to return to our centre, but the cheerful sunflowers are positively blooming in everyone’s gardens at home.
“We’ve all been amazed that these spectacular plants have grown from such humble beginnings with just a little water and TLC,” said manager, Claire. “Every plant looks sunny and cheerful – and very tall!”
We may have to declare everyone the winner.
