Our services are celebrating St George’s day in very English style with afternoon tea, quizzes and good old arts and crafts.
We have been surprised with some of the interesting facts we have learnt about St George did you know St George:
Wasn’t English – he was actually born in modern day Turkey.
… And he wasn’t a Knight – he was an officer in the Roman army.
St George was a Martyr – he was executed for refusing to make a sacrifice in honour of the pagan gods.
St George never visited England and there was no dragon.
But none of this matters as we still love him and celebrate all things English on this day.
Happy St George’s Day!.
