We’re backing this year’s myth-busting theme for Learning Disability Week by showcasing just a few of the achievements made by some of the people living with learning disabilities in our services.
Let’s start with Gail who lives in our independent supported living service. We supported Gail to attend college where she gained the skills to aim for her dream – to work as a receptionist.
Two years ago, her dream came true and she successfully applied for the job as receptionist at our Alan Shearer Activity Centre where she quickly became a highly valued employee and popular staff team member.
Then there’s Carolyn who has volunteered with us for years. Carolyn’s talent for arts and crafts is paying dividends with the hand-crafted cards she regularly creates for us so we can mark the birthday of every member of our staff throughout the year.
– And Peter who shares his talents and love of gardening by helping around our grounds; Barbara whose interest in cooking has led her to volunteer in our Browne’s café and Julie who loves volunteering at our Alan Shearer Centre …
We’re super proud of each and every person living with learning disabilities and it’s great to see how proud they are of their own achievements, too.
