St Catherine’s resident, Helen Thompson, plans to enjoy the freshest salad vegetables possible this summer.
Not content with helping to choose flowers for the nursing home’s courtyard recently, green-fingered Helen has now set up her own ‘allotment’ of planters outside her door. Her tomatoes are flowering and her onions and courgettes are thriving on all the attention she gives them, so Helen is hoping for more sunny weather to ripen her crop.
“I’m just so pleased they encouraged me do this,” said Helen. “My son-in law provided the young plants for growing on and now I’m going to get some seeds to sow a planter full of herbs.”
So everything will be coming up salad, not roses, soon.
